Sherdley Park is a golf course located deep in the woodlands, with Mackenzie greens and tree lined fairways throughout.
Founded in 1928, Kirkby Valley Golf Club is an excellent parkland course, with the river Alt running through parts of the course.
The board of Green Circle Leisure was pleased to introduce to the members and guests the appointment of Ross Astley back in January 2025. Ross brings with him a wealth of experience working in various capacities taking on Senior roles with multi-site operators in the luxury golf and spa resort market.
Prior to Green Circle, Ross led the Golf Business within Champneys Golf and Spa Group leaning on his corporate background to manage internationally recognised golf events working with partners such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, BMW, Manchester City FC, Manchester United, following on from the prior 10 year tenure with the Macdonald Hotel group and De Vere Venues where the final few years saw him manage the Golf business’s across the portfolio working through sales, operations and senior commercial roles across the 10 years.
Glyn is very experienced in the golf industry. As a former PGA Professional who has run, managed, and operated numerous prestigious golf facilities, Glyn joins us from Macdonald Hotels & Resorts where he was their Director of Golf Operations.
Martin has been the golf operations team leader at Allerton Manor since March 2025, having previously been in the same position at Sherdley Park from February 2023.
Martin, has previously been the golf director at Dean wood from 2012 until 2022 and has a unique passion for golf. Martin plays 2 to 3 times a week and really enjoys working in the golf environment. Martin prides himself on working for the members to help drive the club forward.
Lois has recently joined the team at Green Circle Leisure, bringing forth over 10 years of hospitality management expertise – working within the senior management teams for high profile venues in the Ribble Valley. She hopes to utilise her sales experience in order to elevate Allerton Manors Membership base & continue to showcase the Clubs growth and development through networking & outreach activity.
Matt brings a wealth of experience working as a PGA Qualified Professional for over 25 years. His hard work and determination within the golf industry encourages development in the game, whether in new golf products or overall technique. He is an expert coach working to improve all standards of golfers as well as offering group tuition and club repairs.
Lee Dunne is the head greenkeeper at Allerton Manor and has been a greenkeeper for over 28 years.
Lee started working at West Derby Golf Club in March 1997, while he was learning my greenkeeping trade. He then went on to study greenkeeping at Elwood Sports University in St Andrews, Scotland.
During his five years at St Andrews, Lee completed SVQs 1 to 5, where he learned a lot of things that he still uses today on this course.
Lee has then worked at Eccleston Park Golf Club and Huyton and Prescot, where he was assistant head greenkeeper for over 10 years.
Lee’s main focus now is to produce more stunning holes at Allerton Manor and introduce more golfers to this amazing site. Lee prides himself on have an amazing team with him, and with his enthusiasm and work ethic, the future is very exciting.
Ryan has had 18 years experience in the golf industry. He has worked in greenkeeping across many sites such as, Shaw Hill Golf Club, Runcorn Golf Club, Charnock Richard Golf Club, Hurlston Hall Golf Club, before finally joining the Green Circle team where he worked under Lee Dunne at Allerton Manor Golf Club. Ryan became Head Greenkeeper at Sherdley Park in June 2025.
Ryan plans to concentrate on the greens recovery and implement different cutting regimes across the course to enhance the layout of the course. Another one of Ryan’s goals at Sherdley Park is to get the playing surfaces to the highest possible standards and keep that consistent.
